Test preparation

If you intend to take TOEFL iBT, you can enrol at the TOEFL iBT preparation course in LinguaLink where you will be acquainted with the test format, strategies on how to successfully pass the four parts,reading, listening, speaking and writing.

The preparatrion course for TOEFL iBT lasts for 6 weeks and includes:

  • Reading: Candidates practice reading passages from academic texts approximately 700 words long.They are trained to implement the techniques for efficient reading, such as scanning (fast reading for information) and skimming (reading for gist), as well as guessing the meaning of unknown words from the context.
  • Listening: Candidates practice listening to passages on diverse topics (authentic lectures, classroom discussions and conversations) and are trained to implement various listening techniques, such as selective listening, listening for gist, etc.
  • Speaking: Candidates enhance theirs peaking skills by expressing their opinion on a familiar topic, as well as speaking based on what is read or listened to.
  • Writing: Candidates are trained to produce tasks based on what is read and listened to, as well as tasks where they are asked to support an opinion on a topic or discuss the advantages/disadvantages of a particular topic. Special attention is drawn on essay organisation and the usage of appropriate vocabulary, grammar structures and cohesion devices.

The course is normally scheduled on Fridays, from 6 to 8 pm. It can be organised as a group course or an individual tuition. The programme starts with a Diagnostic test in order to determine the students’language competence and points that need improvement.

At the end of the TOEFL preparation course, candidates do a mock test and get a realistic view on their potential score.
